About the Role

We are looking for an individual who is looking to develop their career within our organisation
who wish to continually broaden and explore what the study of Economics or Politics are.
Within this position, you will be responsible for writing columns on Economic or political issues, ensuring that our Journal fosters a platform for academic debate, as well as an opportunity for anyone with an interest in Economics to read well-researched pieces for free.
To achieve this objective, you will be expected to:

Be prudent within your methodology in the articles you write so that the points you present are well-argued and lay a solid foundation for any future discussion.
Reference your pieces well from academically acclaimed sources so that our readers are aware that the content they are consuming is rooted in pragmatic research.
Bring bold and creative ideas into the sphere of public debate so that new concepts can be explored and evaluated.
Maintain regular article output for The Backseat Economist of one written piece per month minimum to ensure that our Journal has a frequent pool of content to be consumed by our community.
Receive feedback and criticism from our Editors who ensure that our Journal publishes articles of sufficient quality and academic prowess.

Requirements

Our organisation has a big focus on valuing our workforce by what they could become, rather than what skills they have now. As such, the most important factor we look for in potential candidates for any role is an industrious work ethic paired with an eagerness to learn as these qualities create the flexibility we need in our workforce. Yet, the role of a Journal Contributor will likely be suitable for individuals who display these qualities:


  • Good knowledge of Economic/Political concepts and an eagerness to explore these social sciences further at the Undergraduate level.


  • A strong work ethic to ensure that articles are submitted to Editors in a timely fashion so that deadlines can be met.


  • An intrinsic nature to continually ask questions and challenge common presumptions in social sciences such as Economics or Politics so that meaningful discussion can arise.


  • An ability to write persuasive texts with good English Language or Literature skills is welcomed, but, these skills are always ready to be improved with the help of our Editing team and other Journalists who you may co-author articles with.

We aspire to connect young Economists across the country by providing a platform where contemporary issues can be discussed freely. By publishing free-to-access articles and other forms of dedicated media such as informational Podcasts and Private Tutoring sessions, our initiative aims to improve access to economics-related education resources for all. We strive to achieve these aspirations of a growing community, increased economic literacy & desire to seek truth through discussion.
